Visual Arts

28 October 2014

Dear parents,

This term in Visual Art, the Ara Teina children will be making a family of puppets and their own puppet theatre. Both need to reflect your family’s cultural identity. We would appreciate it if you would talk with your child about their cultural heritage and where they come from so that they can talk about it at school.
We need your help to support  your child to make the puppets and puppet theatre. As our overall theme this year is sustainability, we would ask that you try to recycle or reuse as many materials as possible.

How you can help…
Please collect the following items…
          An old cardboard box (a little bigger than a shoe box is perfect) or a trifold display board (These can be purchased from Warehouse Stationery).
          A tube/pot of acrylic paint that can be used to paint your child’s puppet theatre or use coloured used gift wrap paper to decorate the theatre.
          Popsicle sticks or wooden/plastic spoons that can be used to make a family of puppets.
          A photo of each member of your family.
          Fabric scraps, ribbon for the curtain.
          Hot glue gun & glue.

You have the option to make the theatre with your child at home  and send it to school .
                                                               Or
We would like to invite you to school on Thursday 6th Nov at 12.45pm for one hour,  to help your child construct their puppet theatre and make a set of puppets to represent their family. Please remember to bring your own resources to make the family puppets and the theatre.
Please be in touch if you have any questions.
Regards,

Mrs. Rego

Last week room 18  had a great time talking and learning about Diwali and the culture and traditions of India. We had one of our student's mum come and help in making a rangoli pattern. The class also made a rangoli pattern brought in by one of our students.

Shared Writing Week 2

Kia Ora,

This week for Shared Writing we have taken our theme from the Term 4 Inquiry plan. We would love for you to be able to discuss with your child some of the ideas that we will be covering in Shared Writing..

e.g What makes us special?
      Whose in your family?
How did you get your name? and
     What is my special talent?

If you could talk about these ideas with your child it will help them to participate in our classes Writing sessions.

Thanks so much!

Welcome back to Term 4!

Kia Ora,

We trust you all had a safe and happy break! Thank you so much to the parents that have returned the bundles of holiday readers that your child received on the last day of term. It's fantastic to see that all the readers were read and the sight words practiced.

Just some upcoming things that you need to be aware of.

Photo Club: If your child would like to be involved in the photoclub which is run by Sarah Ellis once a week please go to room 20 this week and register your child. Places are limited to 2 children per class.

Wheels on Wednesday: Every Wednesday the children can bring their bike or scooter to school and a course is set up on the senior courts for the children at lunchtime. The scooters can be stored in the classroom for the day.

 Litter-less lunchboxes:
Litter-less Lunchbox Challenge
Term 4 20th of October – 21st of November

The challenge is
to see which class can have the most litter-free lunches by the end of Week 5.

Each class is to fill in the calender and create an eye catching graph in the classroom which records how many litter-free lunches they have on a daily basis.

The winner will be
the class with the highest daily average of litter-free lunch-boxes over the period of Week 2-5.

The prize will be
an out of school eco-picnic for the whole class, plus the chance to choose and plant the centrepiece tree in the school vegetable garden.
