Learning how to cross safely with Constable Carl!

Today we were lucky enough to have Constable Carl in our classroom as part of our Inquiry Unit because we are learning all about being Road Safe. Today constable Carl showed the children how to safely use the pedestrian crossing when the road patrols are on duty and when we have to use it alone. We learned the 4 calls that the road patrols use;
1) Signs out
2) Check
3) Clear
4) Cross now

We each got to cross the road with Constable Carl. Check out our videos and photos.

Just a friendly reminder if you bring your child late!

Just a reminder to our parents and whanau that if you bring your child in late (after 9am) then you need to sign them in at the office. After we have submitted the roll electronically and marked your child as "not present", the change to your child's status needs to be changed at the office because this is our school policy. We don't do this in class. So please we endeavor to make sure we follow up with all our late children but at times if we are in a hurry we do miss things. So please let us know when when you drop your child off late that you have signed them in.

Thank you so much for your co-operation.

Reading level Colours and Ages.

Below is the colour wheel that we use with the corresponding level and age. At the end of one full year at school children are expected to be at Green level (12). The colour of the readers that your child will receive each night is usually on the back.

For more information about this National Standard or ways you can help at home please visit

http://nzcurriculum.tki.org.nz/National-Standards/Supporting-parents-and-whanau/Resources#snapshot_pdfs

Each night your child will bring home a new reader at their instructional level and either a choosing book from their pick boxes that they have read before or a book at the level above. If it is a book at the level above we will write the name of the book in their notebook and in brackets "please read to".
We would love parents to come in each morning to our classroom and read the book again with your child. We are trying to encourage as much reading mileage as possible, so your help with this would be very much appreciated.

If you have any questions please feel free to come in and ask us!
